MINERS-SOLDIERS

October, 6^th 2346

Today is D-Day ! In a few hours, we are going to Geonosis. My father is a booster, that's why, the corporation asked him, some days ago, to execute a security mission to supervise the productivity of the miners. I'm in my bedroom, for the last time before a long period. This trip is a constraint for me, it forces me to leave my friends for the next 3 years. We have 16 hours of travel before our arrival on Geonosis. We will arrive tomorow morning, I just have to finish my bag before leaving ! My father often told me about this planet, he d e scribed me it as a big company, though family-like, where parents and children work together. But, in reality, I inquired and it would rather be a kind of colony where men,women and children are exploited to work into mines and live in misery and poverty. Apparently, the job of booster isn't as my father described it to me...

October, 7^th 2346

We finally arrived. During the trip, I only thought about the life that I was giving up on Earth and about the one I would be living on Geonosis. When we went out of the ship, a booster group led by Jackson, an old friend of my father's, who had left for work four years ago, welcomed us. He explained that life on Geonosis, was hard right now. There was a lot of tension, due to an accident two weeks earlier in a mine that had killed a 14-year-girl, named Maya. My father seemed to find that normal. Not me. We discovered our new apartment in the center of the city. The tower in which it was, was huge, it brought together all boosters and their families. Our appartment was smaller than the one we had on Earth but when I saw at the ruins where miners were livin, I promised never to complain. The end of the day passed quietly, we began to unpack and soon, I was going to bed after a hard day.

October, 12^th 2346

Today, I finally decided to go out to visit the city. My mother didn't want me to , but I didn’t listen and I left, she would not blame me, tonight, I knew… Then I crossed many people, the streets were crowded, but I was the only one dressed properly. I stopped around 12pm, in the small restaurant and I ate very quickly. Leaving, I bumped into a young man, and we fell, he helped me to get up and he apologized. I asked him, his name and he answered: “Liam”. We spoke a little together. I l ied to him about my identity because boosters didn’t seen to be appreciated by the population… he accompanied me with Paul, a small Yorkshire dog which kept on barking, near the tower and he explained that he had to go not to miss the curfew at 23 pm.

October, 23^rd 2346

That day changed everything, it was a dark day, full of evil and terror. I was alone at home, I turned the TV on to watch my favourite series when suddenly I fell on a “news special report”: a revolution had broken out… Suddenly I cried to my father: "Daddy, it has started!”. I saw his dark eyes, he really understood everything. He was surprisingly calm as the situation outside was getting worrying… He calmly asked me to take my stuff and go hide with Mom. I was stressed but I did what he told me, however I thought Liam was out in the middle of this mob and I wondered if everything was going well for him… At that time, I decided to leave the apartment, I had really little time left before the bunker in which my mother was, was closed permanently… In a rush, I bagged a bottle of water and some cookies and I ran to the exit. Then, I thought that my father had a gun hidden under his mattress and I just had time to take it and get out. I saw my mother for the last time...

October, 21^st 2346

Yest e rday, I left the bunker, I think about my mother, who could be stressed. When I go outside, I spoke with some people in the street to learn more about the revolution, and I quickly realized that Liam was the main character of this commotion with his father. Suddenly I went in search of Liam, I hoped to find him quickly.

October, 24^th 2346

While I was lacking food, I eventually managed to find him. He was busy but Paul saw me and ran towards me, barking. When Liam saw me he kissed me and apologized. I was not expecting it, but I think I loved it. He took me into the building where he was sleeping. We sat down. He told me all that had happened, the accident of his sister, their wretched living conditions, the behavior of the booster with them, his work at the mine, which caused this revolution. Without being responsible for anything, I nevertheless felt guilty of participating in this human exploitation. How can we live like this, with such treatment?

October, 25^th 2346

That night, I stayed to sleep inside the building where Liam was sleeping because I knew that if I went back home, my father would not let me go out anymore ... Today, Liam and his father, Allan, are at the head of the revolutionary march.

I'm scared. I fear for Liam. I'm afraid of what my father could do ... I could not let him hurt all those miners, who were asking for justice. Liam wants me to come with him, but I have not told him that I was the daughter of a booster. How will he react ? I prefer to be honest with him, I don't want to hide anything to him. I admit it. He is mad at me, I think it takes that for a treason, but on the contrary, I'm doing this to be able to get close to him to help him ... I saw him leaving for the rally, but I followed him, I'm still going with him. I want to prove I'm on his side. I want to fight with him, against that injustice, even if I have to do it against my father. I think he will be happy if I come. He seems to have understood what I wanted to do for him. We arrive together at the meeting point, Allan, Liam's father is already there with many other protesters. I see my father and his colleagues,who are getting closer. I fear what will happen next. The spirits warm up, clans start shouting.

Suddenly, everything changed. All the boosters shot at the miners. Liam's father fell and died. I couldn't understand why m y father did that. Liam's father had lost his daughter, he had fought for a better life with justice and peace. But my own father killed him, coldly, in front of his son and me. When they heard the shot, all the protesters ran and left. I went back home with my father. I didn't even have the time to speak with Liam. I can't imagine how sad he must be feeling . From now on, he is all alone on his own. He's got no more sister and no more father, he is whithout a family.

According to Earth's television, rebellion loses ground, I really don't know what my future will be like.

October, 27^th 2346

The rebellion had invested several districts. They were only a few blocks left before all town would be in the hands of the miners. My father was still a l ive but he was exhausted. He sent food and water to my mother and I. We both waited in the bunker for several days. We were terrorized by noises of shooting we heard all the time.

October, 30^th 2346

The boosters start to leave the planet in spite of a back up sent from Earth, the rebellion has almost conquered the whole city and my father requests us to pack quickly. When we get to the spaceship, I think of my ancient life with my friends, my family, my house, my cat, … but I spot Paul, I understand that Liam is not far and I make an important decision : I will stay on Geonosis. At the very last moment, I drop my bag and run under the fire. My parents look at me but they can do nothing. After the spaceships' take-off, I follow Paul in search of Liam. After 3 hours, we see him, he runs to us and he embraces me.

The rebellion eventually won the war and Earth decided to give us our independence. A whole soci e ty was to be built so Liam and I took care of the population and the next generations.
